Peace and tranquility here, devastation and death there

As I eat oatmeal with the good black cat at my side: peace and tranquility here, horror and devastation there. The boys are creating great works of art depicting trains and mice. They are completely oblivious to the story playing on the news of the incredibly powerful typhoon that has smacked the Philippines with such destruction and death.

I complete my first pass through my Cross Island photos – several more passes to go

Finally, I completed my first pass through all of my Cross Island and related pictures. Considering that I returned home on September 19, you might wonder how it could take so long - that's just the first pass, narrowing it down to, what, I don't know, a few thousand pictures, anyway? I will sort through these again and again and again until finally I wind up with whatever I wind up with.

At the moment, I do not even have a venue to publish it, but I will get one. Uiñiq I hope. It really ought to be a Uiñiq. Kivgiq took my total Uiñiq budget through June 2014. I will have to see if I can get another budget. A year from now would be a good time to publish it, anyway.

Going through the pictures was wonderful – Kind of like living it all over again. When I went to bed last night, I had just one relatively small section of pictures left to go through, but I was just too tired. So I slept for maybe two hours, then woke up and futilely tried to sleep for a couple more hours. At 5 AM, I gave up, got up and finished the initial edit. Jim got up with me and joined me at the computer. He is good that way.

Jim was most unhappy with me

"What the hell you doing leaving me in here alone all night!!!" Jim shouted at me after I returned from Abby's and stepped into my office to see if I could get something done.

I had thought it a little odd that I had not heard him come to the bedroom door last night – Margie usually shuts the cats out when a grandchild is sleeping in our room with us – but at some point Jim usually comes to the door to try and get in and more often than not succeeds. Still, I thought he must've just settled down somewhere else. But no, he was in here all night. I am afraid to look around, afraid of what I might find.

The good black cat, the bushy-bearded man and the jealous calico

Charlie and Melanie have gone home now, but Jim is still here. I was done posting for the day, but I decided I must post at least one cat picture today.

I almost forgot to mention: Chicago is jealous. But then you can probably see that for yourself.

I don't think there will be any more terrifying visitors demanding candy tonight

It's drawing nigh to 11 PM. I don't think any more trick-or-treaters are coming. Just those six – the four I photographed and the two who came for the two minutes when I could not find my phone.

It's very, very, quiet in here – and the lighting is dim. All evening I kept but one light on - the one over the front door. If you could see Jim sitting here for real, you would see that to the eye it looks more dim than this. I remain pretty impressed with the low light capabilities of this iPhone 5s camera. Of course, I had the porch light on so the trick-or-treaters would know they were welcome and there was the glow from the fire in the wood stove. The fire is dying now and I am not going to bother to build it back up tonight. If the weather were normal - cold - then I would. But hell, it's so warm Jim and I might as well be in San Francisco.
