This morning's Instagrammed breakfast with Lynx, consolidated - including the missing parts*
Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 9:24PM Lynx and I are at Abby's Home Cooking, about to order breakfast. Margie thought I was crazy to bring him with me. Lynx can get out of hand. I wonder how it will go? He just threw his fork on the floor. I had better pick it up before Leslie comes to take our order.
Except for the fact that he's already on his fifth cup of coffee, and is getting a little amped, he's been pretty good so far. In fact the lady at the next table with the other little boy and the baby is just flat-out amazed at how good Lynx is being. Our food is here. I'm going to think less about pictures now and concentrate on eating, and on keeping Lynx from throwing his food at everybody.
Breakfast got off to a good start. Lynx began to eat his toast and he was well behaved.
The goodness lasted maybe five minutes, then Lynx began to squirm around in his chair. I noticed his silverware was on the floor.
Next, Lynx abandoned his chair and headed downstream through the restaurant. I got up to chase after. I saw him headed in the direction of a table that to my relief was occupied by friends of 30 years.
Lynx reached the table of James Matumeak and Eileen Boskofsky and each scooped him up in turn. Yes, I have known these two for 30 years, but not from Wasilla – from Barrow. They moved to Wasilla only recently. They have chosen to retire in a "warm" place.
At one end of Abby's, there is a hallway leading to the restrooms and in it she has built a little play area for children. I guided Lynxton to the playroom, then returned, hoping to get a few more bites of my omelette while it was still warm. He seemed happy back there – for about two minutes. Then he charged out into the restaurant, pushing one of the tiny, kid size, playroom chairs.
I had to admit it. It was time to go, Lynx was becoming a disruptive force in the restaurant. True, everyone was smiling at him, but still… So I transferred the coffee to a "to go" cup, got a "to go" box for the remaining food and off we went. It had been fun. I love taking my grandsons to breakfast. If they are all three together, it is impossible. If it's just one, it can be managed – sort of. Well, with Kalib, the oldest, when I am at breakfast or lunch or dinner alone with him, it is downright pleasant. When his brothers are there, it gets wild and so does he.
*The first few days of my Instagram experiment worked like a charm. Then, today, I instagrammed breakfast with Lynx at Abby's and then through my iPhone transferred the first two Instagrams as separate, single picture posts in this blog. After that, something went haywire. I could not complete the series, as half the remaining Instagrammed photos did not wind up in the Instagram album on my iPhone.
I gave up. Still, to complete the full series in a somewhat less satisfying way, I embedded the code from each Instagram into this post. So here you have it.

This brings back memories of breakfast out with my own little one. Patience, that shines through this recent series of Instagrams of your grandson, is a tremendous gift to children. Letting them "be" and not trying to wedged them into a mold of "perfect child" behavior is a real art. Thank you for sharing your beautiful grandson and all the fun you two have been up to this weekend.
