Metro Cafe Study # 6745: Carmen returns bearing gifts; I leave for Utah, wishing it were otherwise

Carmen disappeared after Christmas to cruise the Western Carribean with her family. Today, she returned, bearing gifts for her baristas. Hence:

Metro Cafe Study # 8,322: Following her Western Carribean cruise, Carmen gifts wallets to baristas Kristina and Kassi. Each wallet contains $3,582,991.63.*

I am about to leave for Salt Lake City. I did not know I was going to take this trip until Friday. Wednesday morning, my brother Rex is scheduled to go into open heart surgery for third time. I don't want to go anywhere right now. I just want to stay home and work. But sometimes, one simply must go.
