Five mundane scenes photographed this afternoon while driving through downtown Wasilla
This is one of those nights when I feel I must take a little bit of a break from blogging - not a complete break, just a little break. So I am just going to post five mundance scenes that I photographed this afternoon while driving through downtown Wasilla.
Here I am, headed towards the Post Office, directly ahead at the next intersection. I am hoping I will find a check in my box. I will be disappointed.
Here I am, approaching Wasilla Lake. Hmmm... a few hours later... right now, to be precise... I will be overcome with an irresistible urge to return to this place and buy a banana split - or at least a small cone, dipped in chocolate.
I don't know why. But I am now being overcome with such an urge. I had better hurry up and finish this post, so I can go.
Here I am, passing by Wasilla Lake.
And here is a snowplow, keeping the road clear for me.
I needed an orange, so I stopped at Carr's and bought five. On the walk back to the car, I was thrilled to see a train rolling down the track. What could be better than that? Then along came a school bus - train and school bus together - that's what.
How could a man be so fortunate as I?
Update 10:51 PM: You will notice that even though the title says "Five mundane scenes" this scene actually makes six. Earlier, I had left it out, because I figured one school bus was enough. However, I just returned from eating the banana split (I went whole hog) I bought at Dairy Queen. Things look different after you eat a banana split - it makes you feel like there should be two school buses, afterall.
So here is this school bus, taken when I was directly in front of Metro Cafe.

love banana splits myself...great pictures
Love your "mundane" as well.
I keep thinking it must be lovely to see the mountains rising up around you like that. I lived in the Appalachian foothills for a number of years before having to move back to central Ohio to find work. Even though it's been a few years now, and even though I never did manage to stop feeling like an outsider when I lived there, whenever I drive down into the hills it feels like an empty place in my soul has been filled up. Looking at your photos of the mountains from town (though they're quite a bit more dramatic than the hills of southeastern Ohio!) feels much the same way.
So, Bill--Just how much snow has Wasilla gotten this winter?! You can't see Wasilla Lake in your pic at all due to the heaps of plowed snow. I'm not used to that! I read that Anchorage has gotten twice as much snow as normal this year, and, of course, everyone has heard about Valdez and Cordova.
I see your town which looks like other towns I've been in, but then, beyond, I see incomparable mountains. Not everyone can eat a banana split and look out on scenery like that. You are lucky, way beyond trains and even TWO schoolbuses.
Twain - I had another tonight. If I keep this up, I will have to let my belt out.
Grandma Nancy - It is good for mundane to be good.
Daisy - Any time you get lonesome for mountains, please drop in.
OmegaMom - I don't know. We never get as much as Anchorage, or anyplace else around here, for that matter. Go 15 or 20 miles in any direction and you will find more snow than here. Still, we have got a fair amount, but the wind has blown a lot of it away.
Yes, Debby, you are right, but it is the kind of luck that I was determined to have and put everything on the line to get.
