A kiss from a distance…
Lavina contacted Lynx via Skype tonight. Her Internet connection in McGrath was very weak and we could not hear a word she said. Her image came across as still photographs, about one per second, all transmitted in silence."Hi! Hi!" Lynx greeted her image repeatedly, alternating with "Oh-oh! Oh-oh!" He understood her smooches perfectly and returned them.
Later, Lavina told me by email she could not only see, but hear every word Lynx said to her. I'm sure glad Lynx didn't utter any cuss words. His mother would have thought hIs grandpa was being a bad influence on him.
Lynx on the inside side of the window
I got a call from Margie telling me to come in and pick her and Lynx up, because Lavina's work has unexpectedly sent her off to McGrath for a couple of days. So here I am, picking them up right now.*
*This particular "right now" actually happened nearly three hours ago. Anyone who has followed my recent posts knows how buggy my Squarespace app has been acting. Again, when I originally tried, Squarespace repeatedly posted the text but not the picture, so I gave up until I could get back to my office in Wasilla, where I planned to email the photo to myself and combine it with the text the old fashioned way. After I sat down at my desk, I decided to give the Squarespace app one more try and, lo and behold, it posted the picture. I hope this means the app has been fixed and Squarespace has not yet notified me. I will see what happens next try.
Overdoing it with cute
As for Lynxton, he had already left to go home with his mother, but Kalib and Jobe insisted on spending the night. I shot more too – like of my grandsons at the back door window admiring a moose just beyond the picnic table and trying to fix a Thomas the Train with the wrong screwdriver. I want to post it all but I think maybe I am overdoing it with cute, so I will stop now.
Logbook: Wasilla to Nuiqsut, ultimate goal Cross Island, Entry 1: Rush
Rush, rush, rush! Claw away at last minute computer tasks, do this, do that. Pack everything. Double check camera gear. Forgot something. Find it, pack it. Herd Margie (who has also rushing and packing for me) and Lynxton into car. Go!
